Linda,
Our upcoming Holiday Exhibition (November 6-8) would be a great opportunity for you to see some the of the styles and media that some of our members work with.

Also, if you haven't already, check our the "Exhibition Guidelines" tab at the top of this page - the sections on "Design Art" and "Impressionistic Art" maybe be of particular interest.

You may also want to call the Education Department at the Arboretum and speak to Suzanne Wegener - the Guild's Arboretum Liaison - about the possibility of showing her some of your work. Another possibility would be to bring a photo of some of your work to the Exhibition and talk to some of the Guild members. The Friday night reception is well attended by the artists.

As you may know, our formal meetings are open to the public - you are welcome to attend our meetings before making a decision whether to join.

Thank you for your interest in the Guild!

I am interested in becoming a member but I wonder if my style is suited to this organization. I work exclusively with nature as a subject matter but in the medium of monoprint with hand drawing, my style can be very loose. Is it possible for me to bring in a few of my pieces and talk to someone? Thanks. (I am an arboretum volunteer - bike and trail patrol and am out frequently on weekends.)

Membership runs on a calendar year basis, so if you joined now, your membership would expire December 31. We are not set up to prorate membership dues.

We generally ask people to send us their dues for the new year starting in October. To receive the Winter 2010 Quarterly (which most members consider to be a major benefit of membership), I'd recommend that dues be submitted by the end of December.

Of course, you do not need to be a member to attend our meetings.

If I join the guild today, will my membership be effective through one year from today or is membership a calendar year?

I really enjoyed the August meeting. Being able to see up close and ask questions about how Denise, Maggie, Connie, and Patty create their art was very enjoyable!

This survey is very important in my view, for the board needs to reaccess the budget, and where high costs could be cut, particularly publications. With such a small nonprofit organization, I urge all members to support some expenditure reductions so that dues are not raised and we do not get caught in the rising costs. It will be interesting to learn how much lower the cost of the new, slimmer quarterly is than the previous one. 12 pages is a lot too, probably unnecessary; let's cut back to 8. Let's be thrifty. Let's be reasonable! Members need to make sure they see copies of the treasurer's report in order to evaluate this situation in these grave economic times.

I am a student in Monica Jagel's colored pencil classes. I have a piece she has suggested I submit in the fall show. I am sending in my membership check today, but am unable to find the prospectus on the website. Could you please send me one by e-mail as soon as possible so I can meet the Sept. 24 deadline?

Thanks!
